The Indianwomen's cricket team represents the country of India in international women's cricket. One of eight teams competing in the ICC Women's world cup championship, the highest level of international women's cricket, the team is organised by BCCI . Indian women’s Cricket team made Test debut in 1976, against West Indies, ODI debut at the 1978 World Cup, which it hosted. The team made the final of the 2005 World Cup, losing to Australia and has made the semi-finals on three other occasions (1997, 2000, 2009). India has also made the semi-finals of the World Twenty20 on two occasions (2009, 2010) but is yet to progress any further in the tournament.
India has always been Asia's strongest team - indeed, it is the only side from the continent to have reached the World Cup final, in South Africa in 2005 - and it has never lost an Asia Cup. India had the world's first professional female players, in a sense, for its premier players competed for such clubs as Railways, for whom they were also employees. Today, the game is run by the world's richest board - the BCCI - which offers both financial assistance and a high profile to its players.

History
History
The British brought cricket to India in the early 1600s, with the first cricket match played in 1721. The first Indian cricket club was established by the Parsi community in Bombay, in 1848; the club played their first match against the Europeans in 1877. The first official Indian cricket team was formed in 1911 and toured England, where they played English county teams. The India team made their Test debut against England in 1932. Around the same time (1934), the first women's Test was played between England and Australia. However, women's cricket arrived in India much later; the Women's Cricket Association of India was formed in 1973. The Indian women's team played their first Test match in 1976, against the West Indies.
As part of the International Cricket Council's initiative to develop women's cricket, the Women's Cricket Association of India was merged with the Board of Control for Cricket in India in 2006.
A One Day International (ODI) is an international cricket match between two teams, each having ODI status, as determined by the International Cricket Council. The women's variant of the game is similar to the men's version, with minor modifications to umpiring and pitch requirements. The first women's ODI was played in 1973, between England and Australia. The Indian women's team played their first ODI match in 1978, against England, after the Women's Cricket Association of India was formed. The Women's Cricket Association of India was merged with the Board of Control for Cricket in India in 2006 as part of the International Cricket Council's initiative to develop women's cricket.
The Indian team is selected by a panel of former cricketers who have played at least 25 games at the first-class level or higher. The panel consists of five retired women cricketers, the chairperson and four other members, one member from each of the five zonal divisions in domestic cricket. More than 20% of India's women cricketers represent Mumbai (formerly Bombay) in the domestic league. India have played 173 ODIs under 12 captains, starting with their first ODI in 1978 and including their most recent one in March 2009. The team first won an ODI in McLean Park, Napier, New Zealand against the International XI Women, their seventh game, played in 1982. Since then, India have won another 89 games. The team's first series win was against New Zealand, in 1995.
Former captain Mithali Raj is India's all-time leading run scorer, and ranks among the top ten players from all countries, along with Anjum Chopra; Raj (3836 runs) and Chopra (2777 runs) are ranked fifth and ninth, respectively. Neetu David, with 141 wickets, is India's leading wicket taker and is placed second in the all-time leading wicket takers list from all countries; current captain Jhulan Goswami is third on the list with 120 wickets, and Nooshin Al Khadeer is sixth with 99 wickets. Anju Jain with 81 dismissals and Karu Jain with 51 dismissals are fourth and fifth in terms of all-time dismissals by wicket-keepers from all countries. Among captains, with 33 victories, Mithali Raj is India's most successful, and the third most successful captain in women's ODI cricket.
Since the team was formed, 93 women have represented India in ODI cricket. This list includes all players who have played at least one ODI match and is arranged in the order of debut appearance. Where more than one player won their first cap in the same match, those players are listed alphabetically by last name at the time of debut.
